The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh is seeking an Events Staff member to support the Events Operations team in coordinating and facilitating rentals. You will help set up and tear down equipment, load and unload gear, and transport items between spaces with care.

This union, part-time role requires reliability for evenings and weekends, compliance with safety policies, and strong customer service to assist event-goers.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Set up and tear down events per floor plans.
  • Assemble seating and tables per code and regulations.
  • Move, store, and care for equipment.
  • Set up lighting and sound equipment.
  • Inspect equipment and verify against inventory.
  • Provide customer service to event-goers as needed.
  • Keep the event space clean and organized.
  • Be on-site to ensure timelines and safety during events.
  • Return spaces to pre-event condition and coordinate with contractors.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly

Classification: Casual Part Time

Compensation: $18.00 per hour

Position Summary

This is a Union position.

Responsible for assisting the Events Operations Manager and Events Operations Supervisor in coordinating and facilitating special event rentals and ensuring the effective operation of the overall program. The primary responsibility of the position is to set up and tear down event equipment with precision and care. Efficiently load and unload equipment for events. Safely transport event equipment to and from venue spaces.

Essential Job Duties
  • Set-up and tear down events in accordance with the directive and floor plans provided by the Events Operations Manager and/or the Events Operations Supervisor.
  • Assembles seating and table placement that comply with applicable building and fire code regulations.
  • Ensures proper care, movement and storage of all equipment.
  • Sets up lighting and sound equipment.
  • Inspects equipment for damage after use and checks equipment against an inventory list.
  • Provides customer service as needed and dispenses useful information to event-goers.
  • Ensures the event space is clean and organized.
  • On-site presence during events to ensure timelines, safety and overall service.
  • Provide knowledgeable, in-the-moment solutions to challenges that may arise relating to equipment failure and unexpected environmental or client driven changes.
  • Providing clients with the highest level of service and quality.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including both public and private spaces.
  • Follows appropriate safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Ensure museum and grounds are returned to pre-event condition and ensure any contractors fulfill contractual obligations.
  • Ensures that activities in the exhibit spaces are appropriately organized and prepared for general guests or for specific age ranges (e.g. school groups).
Additional Responsibilities
  • Understand, follow, and enforce Museum policies and procedures.
  • Ability to support and facilitate emergency procedures (i.e. fire evacuation, accident reporting).
  • Follows appropriate safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Flexibility and willingness to cross train in multiple departments
  • Assist with execution of Birthday Parties as needed.

Job Qualifications
Education
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
  • Event set up and breakdown experience preferred.
  • Customer service experience preferred.

  • Strong sense of time management to effectively maximize productivity and timeline.
  • Demonstrate the ability to think objectively and make a quick decision in the best interest of the facility and the client.

Physical Requirements & Equipment Usage
  • Moves about Museum areas on a regular, consistent basis to set-up events, monitor events, and breakdown events.
  • Occasionally works in outdoor areas, under moderate to unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 20 lbs regularly and up to 65 lbs with assistance. Preparation and set up requires an increased level of physical abilities and can be strenuous at times.

Work Environment, Hours of Work, and Travel Requirements
  • Duties will be performed in a museum environment, which includes interaction with the public and exposure to children and families.
  • Required to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours.
  • Available to work on as needed basis.
  • Availability required 1 month in advance.
Clearances
  • FBI fingerprint, PA Child Abuse (Act 33), and PA Criminal History Check (Act 34) clearances are required.
