Job summary

The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking an Event Assistant for the Fowler Events Center. This role entails setting up and tearing down athletic facilities and assisting with event logistics. Job description

Position Title

Event Assistant – Fowler Events Center (On Call)

Pay Range

$16.00 to $20.00 hourly

Summary

Performs a wide variety of tasks including setup and teardown of Athletics facilities and equipment related to athletic contests and special events. Assists with overall equipment maintenance and administrative functions as assigned by the Director of the Fowler Events Center. Collaborates with other University departments and/or vendors to put on a successful event. Will assist with overseeing student workers and game day operations by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists with Athletic events setup and teardown, including but not limited to: press tables, court equipment, bleachers, tables, chairs, barricades, A/V equipment, locker rooms, etc.
  • Ensures all required game/practice equipment is operational; troubleshoots issues as they arise.
  • Assists in preparation of locker rooms, press tables, front and back of house, etc. for games/practices for home team, visiting team, and officials.
  • Helps oversee student workers engaged in day‑to‑day operation of Events Center.
  • Oversees chapel setup/tear down with student workers.
  • Implements standard operating procedures for Events Center.
  • Regularly assess the facility and equipment for unsatisfactory and/or unsafe conditions and report observations for resolution.
  • Requests parts and supplies as needed to complete tasks.
  • Works cooperatively with other Events Center staff and employees from other departments.
  • Performs general custodial and janitorial tasks as necessary.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position could be responsible for assigning work and/or giving direction to part‑time student workers, to complete office work assignments.

  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Instructions to Applicants

During Basketball season, typical work week will be 25 hours, with potential to work other sporting events and campus activities throughout the rest of the year.
