Job summary

City of Suffolk seeks a Recreation Leader to support athletics division practices and events, including evening and weekend hours. The role involves leading basketball drills, instructing participants, handling registrations, and assisting with facility operations.

Responsibilities include equipment setup, inventory management, and basic administrative duties while engaging with the public and volunteers to support community programs and events.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 1–2 years in a customer service role with adults and children.
• Able to determine, calculate, tabulate or summarize data/information.
• Able to provide guidance and interpretation of procedures and standards.
• Able to read reports, directions, and instructions with accuracy.
• Able to communicate clearly in English with poise and confidence.
• Ability to exercise judgment and adapt to changing duties.
• Knowledge of department policies and activities for recreation leadership.
• Ability to supervise and coordinate program activities.
• Ability to recruit volunteers for recreation and related programs.

Responsibilities

• Interact with the general public in person and by phone; register participants; issue/check membership cards; collect fees and enforce rules.
• Set up and take down equipment; maintain inventory; issue athletic equipment to participants.
• Assist in cleaning and maintaining the facility.
• Perform routine administrative tasks; collect funds; prepare deposits; basic data entry and filing.
• Provide input regarding programs, participants, and volunteers.
• Operate a computer and basic software (word processing, email).
• Communicate with supervisors, other departments, vendors, and the public; attend meetings.
• May assist with special events including holidays and trips.
• Perform other related duties as required.
