The Edison Public Library is seeking a Part-Time Library Assistant to work nights and weekends. The position offers 20–25 hours per week at an hourly rate of $18.89, with evenings and weekend shifts included.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patrons of all ages.
• Fluency in English, and preferably a second language as well.
• Desire to work in a collaborative environment.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and set priorities.
• Strong technical skills with standard office software and library IT.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and assist patrons from any service desk or area of the library.
• Check out, discharge, and renew materials.
• Register patrons for new library cards; update expired cards.
• Locate and retrieve items to fill requests; shelve materials.
• Pack, unpack and process delivery of materials.
• Multitask and manage interruptions; assist with readers’ advisory.
• Help patrons use the catalog and library resources; assist with programs.
• Assist patrons in placing items on HOLD; perform other duties as required.
