Job summary

The Jersey City Free Public Library is seeking a part-time Library Assistant to support staff and patrons at multiple locations within the library system.

Responsibilities include shelving materials, assisting patrons, answering queries in person, by phone or online, and operating standard office equipment. Evening and weekend availability is required; position up to 16 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Ability to learn to use the Dewey Decimal System.
• Ability to compare written and printed material for accuracy.
• Ability to read with comprehension.
• Ability to follow oral and written orders, directions, or plans.
• Knowledge of general vocabulary, spelling and of standard English grammar.
• Knowledge of filing systems.

Responsibilities

• Shelves used materials, performs shelf reading duties.
• Assists patrons with finding materials.
• Assists in answering in-person, phone and electronic patron queries.
• Operates standard office machines, such as copiers or calculators.
• Informs individuals of library services.
