Job summary

Eastern Shore Community College in Accomack, Virginia is seeking a Part-Time Peer Tutor for English to provide individualized tutoring, support learning strategies, and foster independent study.

You will tutor students in English, help them build a systematic approach to coursework, maintain session records, and refer learners to campus resources; evenings and some weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• English tutoring experience with a B or better in the content area.
• Sophomore standing; strong content knowledge and written/oral communication.
• Ability to work with a diverse student population.
• Adapt tutoring methods to meet varied learning styles.
• Ability to work well with staff and students.
• Integrate study strategies to maximize academic progress.
• Proficiency in English across developmental to literature courses.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual tutoring in the specified discipline and promote independent learning.
• Tutor students and encourage a systemic approach to studying.
• Participate in professional development offerings.
• Meet with Academic Skills Advisor to plan academic support.
• Refer students to campus resources as needed.
• Keep regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions.
• Reach out to students to invite them for academic support.
• Perform other duties consistent with the Peer Tutor role.
