Job summary

Johns Hopkins University seeks a Campus Police Officer to provide security for the Peabody campus and related facilities, ensuring a safe environment for students, staff, neighbors, and visitors.

The role requires foot patrols, incident response, and customer service across events at the Peabody Institute. The position is non-sworn and unarmed, with shifts including holidays and weekends to support department needs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
• Two years work experience; meet Maryland State Police requirements for Special Police Commission; must pass university background check; clean driving record (no more than two points).
• Substitution of education for experience or vice versa may be allowed per JHU policy.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas on foot.
• Participate in crime prevention and community policing.
• Respond to routine and emergency calls for service and take appropriate action.
• Conduct investigations and write clear, concise reports.
• Conduct security inspections of Peabody facilities and report conditions.
• Provide escorts and general security services (locking/unlocking buildings).
• Work flexible shifts including holidays/weekends for events.
• Operate computers and office equipment; qualify with Baton/OC spray.
• Perform other security-related services for faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
• Provide security and information services for Peabody events and on-campus activities.
