Job summary

HNL Lab Medicine in Allentown, PA, seeks a qualified individual to perform gross preparation and description of non-complex surgical specimens. The role supports surgical pathology by selecting tissue for microscopic analysis and ensuring accurate accessioning in the LIS.

The ideal candidate holds an associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology and can work a Monday–Friday, 4:30 pm–1:00 am shift, with independence and attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
• Education/training equivalent to the above including 60 semester hours with 24 labs or 24 science hours with chemistry/biology plus ABHES/NAACLA training.
• Strong reading, analytical, and basic medical terminology skills.

Responsibilities

• Selects and prepares tissue for microscopic examination for permanent sections.
• Performs gross description of non-complex surgical specimens.
• Ensures correct accessioning and numbering of surgical specimens in the LIS.
• Assists with special projects as designated by the Lead PA, Pathology Manager or Pathologist.
• Ability to work independently with minimum direction.

Education

Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology

60 semester hours with 24 lab tech or 24 science hours incl chemistry, biology, and 12 hours in related fields; ABHES/NAACLA training or equivalent
