Job summary

UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Specimen Processor to support the laboratory's processing area. The role includes receiving, sorting, identifying, processing, and distributing specimens, entering data into the Laboratory Information System, and assisting with clerical duties.

This full-time position works the 1:45 pm to 10:15 pm shift, with shifts every third weekend and holiday required. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma and 3–6 months of lab or service experience, plus strong

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.
3–6 months of experience in a clinical laboratory, physician's office, or medical environment preferred.
3–6 months of experience in a service environment including call center, customer service center, or product distribution/fulfillment center preferred.

Responsibilities

Receive, sort, identify, process, and distribute specimens.
Enter requisition information and patient results into the computer system; call statistical results.
Assist with clerical duties and train new employees.
Monitor pneumatic tube and courier deliveries to ensure timely processing of specimens.
Verify patient specimens against requisitions and labels.
Prepare, package and send specimens to outside locations as needed.
Disinfect the work area and participate in orientation of new staff.
