Job summary

UPMC Altoona is seeking a full-time Sonographer for the evening shift 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. with rotating weekends and on-call duties as needed.

This position requires completion of an accredited ultrasound program and certification (RDMS/RVT/ARRT) with ARRT (S) eligibility; a $6,000 sign-on bonus is offered with a 2-year commitment to UPMC. Qualifications

• Completion of formal training in an Ultrasound program accredited by CAAHEP is required.
• RDMS/RVT/ARRT(S) certification or registry eligibility is preferred and must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
• Experience with ultrasound procedures and ability to communicate with patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assists physicians with invasive procedures and adheres to universal protocol standards.
• Ensures exams are properly coded and tracked in RIS and archived in ISITE.
• May be responsible for High Level Disinfection of devices and equipment.
• Communicates procedures clearly to patients to alleviate fears and obtain cooperation.
• Documents patient history and physician orders in the electronic record.
• Performs ultrasound examinations and correlates findings with clinical data for diagnosis under physician supervision.
• Interacts professionally with patients and co-workers to expedite patient care.
• Operates ultrasound equipment following protocol to obtain high-quality images.
