Job summary

UPMC Altoona is seeking a full-time Sonographer for the evening shift (3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.) with occasional weekend, holiday rotation and on-call duties. A $6,000 sign-on bonus with a 2-year commitment accompanies this role.

The sonographer will perform varied ultrasound procedures under physician supervision, ensuring proper documentation, patient safety, and effective communication to patients and care teams.

Qualifications

• Proficient in performing and documenting ultrasound studies.
• Adheres to universal protocol and patient safety standards.
• Experience with RIS/ISITE archiving and interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Assists physicians with invasive procedures and adheres to universal protocol standards.
• Ensures all exams are coded and tracked in RIS and connected to ISITE for archiving/interpretation; charges entered.
• May be responsible for high-level disinfection of devices/equipment.
• Communicates instructions clearly to patients and explains procedures to alleviate fears.
• Identifies patients with two identifiers and uses universal protocol; reviews history and orders; documents history.
