Job summary

Duke University Transportation Services is seeking an on-site supervisor for the evening shift to lead maintenance of the Duke Transit fleet, including buses and shuttles. You will direct staff, prioritize tasks, and ensure maintenance is completed accurately and on time, while acting as supervisor in their absence.

You will oversee work orders, coordinate parts and inventory, and liaise with transit dispatch to keep fleet readiness, safety, and service continuity at a high level.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent.
• Three years of experience in transportation services.
• CDL with Passenger Endorsement; DOT Medical Card.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee evening shift maintenance operations by assigning, prioritizing, and monitoring preventive maintenance and repair activities to support fleet readiness and service continuity.
• Execute assigned priorities from the Maintenance Supervisor, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and expectations.
• Direct evening shift maintenance staff by assigning work, providing guidance, monitoring performance, and addressing performance concerns, including administering corrective actions and discipline as needed.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for evening shift staff, addressing operational needs, supporting time-off coordination, and providing direction and assistance related to daily work activities.
• Determine vehicle service status by placing vehicles in and out of service based on maintenance findings, safety considerations, and operational readiness; communicate vehicle availability and status updates to Transit dispatch.
• Manage and close work orders in a timely and accurate manner; ensure maintenance activities are properly documented and complete.
• Utilize maintenance management systems to track work orders, inventory usage, and repair history, and generate and review reports related to maintenance operations.
