Job summary

Mercy House in Huntington Beach is seeking a Safety Specialist to support the Emergency Shelter Program during evening shifts. The role focuses on shelter setup, safety, and crisis intervention while maintaining a client-centered, trauma-informed housing approach.

You will work with a licensed security team and engage with diverse guests in a supportive environment. The position is full-time, non-exempt, with a $22.00/hour pay rate.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate tolerance for individuals with urgent multiple case management needs.
• Ensure a client-focused, trauma-informed shelter approach.
• Ability to direct and professionally control crowds while preserving dignity.
• Knowledge of fair housing and legal concerns to advocate for clients served.

Responsibilities

• Assist with shelter activities to ensure guest-focused, trauma-informed service delivery.
• Support housing discussions and progress with shelter guests.
• Assist with shelter setup, maintenance, and safety of facilities.
• Maintain daily summary sheets, records, and perimeter/firewatch logs.
• Provide guest services support and complete ad hoc projects as assigned by Supervisor.
