Job summary

Salvation Army in Richmond, VA seeks a dedicated Shelter Support Associate to help ensure safety, comfort, and wellbeing of clients in an emergency shelter. The role involves supervising clients, maintaining cleanliness, and logging daily shelter activities on an evening/overnight shift.

A high school diploma or GED is required, with preference for one year in security or social services and CPR/First Aid certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or preferred.
• One year experience in security or social service preferred.
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience accepted.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor shelter clients to ensure safety and adherence to house rules.
• Support shelter operations, prep sleeping and dining areas before opening, and check-in lines.
• Regulate curfew, lights out, and quiet hours for client comfort and safety.
• Respond calmly to emergencies and take corrective actions per policy.
