Job summary

Portola Hotel & Spa in Monterey, CA is seeking a part-time server to join our restaurant team. The role requires 6 months of serving experience and availability from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, 3–4 days per week.

You will greet guests, take orders, serve beverages (including alcohol with ID checks), and work with the POS system. Ideal candidates maintain excellent attendance, have strong guest service skills, and can work in a fast-paced environment while providing detailed menu knowledge and attentive

Qualifications

Minimum 6 months of serving experience.
Requires availability 3–4 days per week, 2:00 PM–10:00 PM.
California Food Handlers / ServSafe Certification required.
State approved Certification Alcohol management required.

Responsibilities

Serve guests while following standard service sequence to enhance guest experience.
Maintain a friendly, helpful attitude toward guests and staff.
Recommend dishes, identify ingredients, and explain menu preparation.
Serve beverages including alcohol and verify guest age per ID.
Record orders and relay to kitchen via POS system.
Attend to guest needs promptly and observe for additional requests.
Present checks, handle payments, and provide change.
Restock and maintain tableware, condiments, and linens.
Set tables for next meal period and uphold sanitation standards.
Demonstrate in-depth menu knowledge and communicate details to guests.
