Job summary

Portola Hotel & Spa in Monterey, CA is seeking a part-time Bartender to provide friendly, professional service at the bar and lounge. You will follow recipes, handle payments, maintain cleanliness, and ensure guest safety.

The ideal candidate has a High School diploma, ServSafe/California Food Handlers, and RSB certification, plus 6 months in food & beverage. Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Open and close inventory accurately and report discrepancies.
  • Present guest with the bill and process payments.
  • Adhere to health regulations and Portola Hotel & Spa brand standards.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Jacks Monterey Bartenders are responsible for serving food and beverages to guests in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner while adhering to all health regulations and local liquor laws. Ensures exceptional guest service and creates an inviting atmosphere. Follows Portola Hotel and Spa’s brand standards of quality to ensure guest satisfaction.

THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS OF THIS JOB ARE:
  • Responsible for serving drinks to guests following standard recipes, policies and procedures
  • Responsible for serving guests while complying with a sequence of customer service standards to positively impact the guests’ experience
  • Ability to assume a pleasant and helpful attitude towards guests and fellow staff members
  • Recommend certain dishes, identify ingredients and explain how various items on the menu are prepared
  • Responsible for completing an accurate opening and closing inventory of product
  • Assure that all equipment is operable and clean
  • Responsible for arranging bottles to make and maintain an attractive display behind the bar
  • Responsible for checking identification of guests in order to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol
  • Maintain cleanliness of bar and lobby tables utilizing sanitation procedures
  • Responsible for recognizing guests that are visibly intoxicated and taking action to cut off alcohol to such individuals
  • Maintain sanitation, health and safety standards in work areas
  • Responsible for computing the cost of the meal and presenting the guest with the check; Accept payments and provide change as necessary
  • Comply with the Company’s standards of conduct
  • Complete food and beverage knowledge and be able to communicate in detail to guests

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITES:

Knowledge of the entire hotel food & safety compliance procedures, hotel safety procedures to ensure the safety and security of our guests and employees.

Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL / CERTIFICATION / LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent – Required
  • California Food Handlers / ServSafe and Certification – Required
  • State approved RSB Certification Alcohol management - Required
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  • Detail oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to solve problems quickly.
  • Basic computer and phone skills.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCED REQUIRED:

Minimum 6-months of Food & Beverage experience required; hospitality experience preferred.
