Job summary

Reading Community Schools is accepting applications for a Full-Time Maintenance/Custodian position (8 hours per day, year-round). The role supports grounds, custodial, and light facility tasks under the Maintenance and Facilities Supervisor, ensuring a safe and clean educational environment for students and staff.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, be capable of lifting 50 lbs, and hold a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; college or trade school classes preferred.
• Custodial and maintenance experience to carry out assigned duties is preferred.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Clear Criminal History Check.
• Hold a valid driver’s license.
• Operate lawn mowers, zero-turn mowers, edgers, leaf blowers, and hedge trimmers.
• Salt parking lots, drives, sidewalks, and building fronts.
• Perform grounds upkeep: pick up litter, remove leaves/brush, and clean up after storms.
• Perform interior surface maintenance, including painting, priming, and wall preparation for classrooms and common areas.
• Sweeps, mops, and scrub floors and other surfaces.
• Cleans and services lavatories, toilet rooms, and locker rooms.
• Washes interior and exterior glass, including framed pictures, partitions, and doors.
