Position Details

Position Title: General Maintenance

Classification: Teamsters Local #429

Reports To: Director of Facilities and/or their designee

Hours: Variable Hours

Position Rate: $22.50

Position Goal: Support the educational program by ensuring that all District buildings and grounds are always maintained in excellent condition.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required; skilled trade in multi-craft disciplines preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills, a keen attention to detail, and proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and manuals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to work effectively and in harmony with administrators, co-workers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Strong verbal and written skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively in English using proper grammar and vocabulary, including, but not limited to, the ability to independently compose reports.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in operating any/all maintenance equipment, including, but not limited to, snowplows, lawn mowers, tractors, trimmers, etc.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and follow up on assignments/projects.
  • Proven ability to understand and appreciate the "big picture," while also being extremely detail oriented.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and to organize and prioritize work to meet all deadlines.
  • Possess personal characteristics indicative of maturity, flexibility, tactfulness, and cooperation.
  • Proven track record of integrity, good moral character, initiative, and even-temperedness.
  • Proven track record of stellar attendance and demonstrated ability to be in regular and consistent attendance.
  • Pennsylvania Driver's License and personal transportation required.
  • Proven ability to safely operate the necessary vehicles and equipment to perform all essential functions.
Performance Responsibilities

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

  • Perform general maintenance to District's buildings, including, but not limited to, that related to general lighting, hanging of pictures and bulletin boards, basic preventative maintenance and structural repairs, interior and exterior painting, basic door hardware adjustments, furniture assembly, furniture delivery, etc.
  • Perform ground maintenance as directed, including, but not limited to, mowing grass and trimming, pulling weeds and applying mulch, and replanting as necessary. Assist with removing dead trees/shrubs, pruning/trimming trees and shrubs, etc. Assist with prepping fields.
  • Perform all duties associated with snow/ice removal, including, but not limited to, shoveling snow, operating snowplows, chipping ice, salting walkways and parking areas, etc.
  • Coordinate and conduct all District moving of offices, classrooms, furniture, equipment, etc.
  • Fill in for district wide mail run when needed.
  • Perform custodial duties when assigned.
  • Serve as substitutes for Food Service and Supply Truck Delivery drivers, mail delivery person, and trash removal assistants.
  • Support trade personnel through serving as a trade assistant.
  • Report and evaluate malfunctioning equipment and building repairs to the Facilities Administrator
  • Fulfill job orders, complete repairs, and run errands as assigned by Facilities Administrator.
  • Be always reachable via District-issued phones or radios during work hours.
  • Be available for calls (fire, police, security) when on-call.
  • Perform assigned tasks ever vigilant of maintaining confidentiality regarding material seen or overheard while performing job duties.
  • Conduct building opening in the morning, if needed, in accordance with District/building procedures and protocols.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management.
