Job summary

Reading Community Schools is seeking a Maintenance/Custodian for a full-time, 2nd shift position with a wage of $18.45 per hour. The role is year-round (261 days) and reports to the Maintenance and Facilities Supervisor, with responsibilities for grounds maintenance and custodial care.

The ideal candidate is reliable, able to lift 50 lbs, adheres to safety protocols, and can collaborate with the team. The position may involve assisting with food service as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; college or trade school classes preferred.
• Be neat in appearance.
• Be able to speak, read, and write at a level of proficiency that permits satisfactory job performance.
• Be capable of and demonstrate the establishment and maintenance of harmonious, effective relationships with staff, supervisors, and co-workers.
• Custodial and maintenance experience to carry out assigned duties is preferred.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Maintain communication with the supervisor.
• Operate lawn mowers, zero-turn mowers, edgers, leaf blowers, and hedge trimmers.
• Conduct ice and snow removal from sidewalks, building fronts, and parking lots.
• Keep careful control over all tools and custodial equipment.
• Perform grounds upkeep: pick up litter, remove leaves/brush, and clean up after storms.
• Follow all safety protocols: PPE, safe operation of equipment, and traffic/pedestrian controls.
• Maintain records: work logs, chemical applications, equipment maintenance, and incident reports.
