Job summary

Gavin School District 37 is seeking a Custodian to ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and appearance of the district's school buildings and grounds. The Custodian will work with the Director of Facility Management to maintain Gavin buildings and grounds.

The position requires a valid Illinois or Wisconsin driver's license, flexibility to work days when school is not in session, and preferred experience in custodial work.

Qualifications

• A valid Illinois or Wisconsin driver's license.
• Experience in custodial field (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Activates alarm, closes and locks all exit and interior doors as directed by the Director of Facility Management or building principal.
• Checks for vandalism and reports to supervisor immediately.
• Checks the calendar for events scheduled during the late afternoon and evening hours.
• Cleans interior glass and desktops.
• Empties waste containers, pencil sharpeners, recycling, and other containers of trash and disposes of daily.
• Wet mops and/or vacuums the library and all classrooms in assigned area.
• Dry mops the gymnasium and bleachers as necessary.
• Dust sills, door frames, cabinets, counter tops and locker tops.
• Cleans assigned washrooms, urinals, toilet bowls and washbasins; removes markings from mirrors, fixtures, walls and stalls; services washroom needs and towel machines; wet mops floor with a disinfectant solution.
• Clean all drinking fountains daily.
• Sweeps/vacuums all halls and stairwells, wet mops as necessary; disinfects handrails and door knobs daily.
• Assists with the unloading of deliveries as directed.
• Reports all needed repairs to the Director of Facility Management through School Dude work order system.
• Sets up tables and chairs for lunch and other programs as directed.
• Assist in inventory control and security.
• Use ladders when required in work assignments.
• Attend safety meetings and other meetings as required.
