Job summary

Springfield City Schools is hiring an Assistant Custodian for Roosevelt for the 2026-2027 school year in Columbus, Ohio. The role involves keeping classrooms, offices, and restrooms clean, performing routine maintenance, setting up equipment for events, and supporting cafeteria operations as needed.

The position offers a stable schedule (Mon-Fri, 2:00pm-11:00pm) and a starting hourly wage of $20.41. As a contracted employee, you will work 8 hours per day, 260 days per year, with professional

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or the equivalent is required.
• Training and/or experience evidencing knowledge of custodial and basic maintenance techniques.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring cleanliness of classrooms, offices, hallways, and steps and recycling materials according to the recycling program.
• Cleans restrooms and locker rooms daily and replenishes supplies.
• Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to facilities and custodial equipment including groundskeeping equipment.
• Sets up and takes down special equipment for assemblies, special programs and other activities.
• Operates necessary equipment to promote a clean, safe, and healthy environment.
• Assists in the cafeteria during lunch, and assists in cleaning the kitchen.
• Guards property against fire, theft, and illegal entry and obeys all safety regulations at all times.
• Provides security for buildings by attending to the physical plant during open hours and secures all doors, windows, and restricted areas during closed hours and responds to Sonitrol calls in the absence of the Head Custodian.
• Closes the building by shutting off all lights, locking all doors and windows, and unlocks doors as required.
• Performs a variety of tasks to the grounds surrounding the building including mowing, trimming shrubbery, removing snow and ice, picking up and emptying receptacles, etc.
• Lifts and moves equipment, furniture, supplies, or materials (e.g., weight up to 80 lbs, and distances up to 50 yards).
