Job summary

Springfield City Schools seeks an Assistant Custodian for Roosevelt Middle School in Springfield, Ohio for the 2026-2027 school year. The role supports cleaning classrooms, restrooms, and common areas, with routine maintenance and grounds tasks to keep facilities safe and welcoming.

The position runs 8 hours per day, 260 days per year, Monday–Friday, 2:00pm–11:00pm, with starting pay of $20.41 per hour. This is a contracted, full-time posting with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or the equivalent is required.
• Experience with custodial and basic maintenance techniques is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensures cleanliness of classrooms, offices, hallways, and stairs and recycles materials according to the recycling program.
• Cleans restrooms and locker rooms daily and replenishes supplies.
• Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to facilities and custodial equipment including groundskeeping equipment.
• Sets up and takes down equipment for assemblies and other activities.
• Operates equipment to promote a clean, safe, and healthy environment.
• Assists in the cafeteria during lunch and helps in cleaning the kitchen.
• Guards property against fire, theft, and entry and follows safety regulations at all times.
• Provides security for buildings during open hours and secures doors/windows during closed hours; responds to calls as needed.
• Closes the building by locking doors/windows and unlocking as required.
• Performs grounds maintenance such as mowing, shrub trimming, snow removal, and waste management.
• Lifts and moves equipment up to 80 lbs and distances up to 50 yards.
