Job summary

DESC (Downtown Emergency Service Center) is seeking energized Residential Counselors to manage day-to-day operations at our Permanent Supportive Housing Projects. You will support residents with daily needs, especially those facing severe mental illness and substance use challenges, promoting stability and well-being.

As part of a union-represented team, you’ll participate in staff meetings, coordinate with clinical staff, and help maintain safe, respectful housing environments.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of homelessness and related adult populations.
• Effective communication with diverse staff.
• Ability to work with clients displaying challenging behaviours.
• Respect for client dignity across programs.

Responsibilities

• Interact with residents in common areas and milieu.
• Coordinate services with clinical staff and outside providers.
• Engage residents with creative strategies to build trust.
• Lead on-site activities, groups, outings, and community meetings.
• Maintain safety and security across building operations.
• Record significant events in daily logs and monitor logs.
