Job summary

St. Paul’s Assisted Living in South Bend is seeking a Prep Cook to support the culinary services team. This part-time, evening shift role runs 11:00am to 7:00pm and focuses on preparing ingredients, assisting with meals, and maintaining kitchen cleanliness.

The ideal candidate has kitchen or food service experience, knowledge of basic food prep and safety, and strong reliability. ServSafe is a plus. The position may require weekend/holiday work and offers benefits per company policy.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in a kitchen or food service setting strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of basic food preparation and kitchen safety procedures.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
• Must be dependable, punctual, and professional in demeanor.
• ServSafe certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients by washing, chopping, slicing, and measuring food items according to recipes and menu requirements.
• Assist cooks and chefs in preparing and plating meals for residents.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen, prep areas, and equipment.
• Properly label and store food items to ensure freshness and prevent cross-contamination.
• Follow all food safety regulations and company policies.
• Help with receiving and storing deliveries and rotating stock.
• Work collaboratively with the dietary team to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
• Perform other kitchen-related duties as assigned by the Chef or Food Service Manager
