Job summary

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is seeking a Phlebotomy professional for the Burnet Campus in Cincinnati, Ohio. This full-time evening position (3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., rotating holidays and weekends) supports phlebotomy and point-of-care testing, with emphasis on patient education and specimen collection.

Required: high school diploma or equivalent and 2+ years in phlebotomy or related field, or completion of a Phlebotomy/Medical Assistant program. Certification is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of Phlebotomy or related clinical laboratory specimen collection experience, or completion of a Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program.
  • Preferred: Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform approved specimen collection procedures, point-of-care testing services, and processing; provide education and support to patients and families regarding tests and specimen acquisition.
  • Act as patient advocate and meet patient/family needs; provide information regarding patients admitted, referred, transferred, or discharged from units; offer emotional support as needed.
  • Collaborate cooperatively with colleagues to achieve goals; develop positive working relationships and promote a professional work environment.
  • Maintain professional development through continuing education, conferences, meetings, in-services, and seminars; apply knowledge and skills in work and the organization.
  • Understand and comply with applicable policies, guidelines, regulations, and accreditation standards; document compliance and maintain safety and efficiency of work areas.

Job Responsibilities

Hours - Evenings 3:00pm to 11:30pm Rotating holidays and weekends

  • Technical/Phlebotomy - Perform approved specimen collection procedures, point-of-care testing services and processing. Provide education/information and support to patients and families concerning tests and specimen acquisition. Assist in special projects, evaluations, experiments or research.
  • Customer Service - Act as patient advocate and meet patient/family needs. Provide information concerning patients admitted to, referred to/from, transferred to/from, or discharged from home unit. Provide emotional support to patients/families as needed. Utilize a customer focus in completing assignments, communicate in a courteous and conscientious manner. Promptly attend to requests and concerns.
  • Collaboration - Work cooperatively with others to achieve goals. Proactively adjust one's style, efforts to complement those of others. Develop positive working relationships, interact in a respectful, professional manner. Share knowledge and/or provide support for team members. Contribute to and promote a positive and professional work environment/atmosphere.
  • Professional Development - Maintain currency in the field through continuing education, conferences, meetings, in-services, networking, literature, and/or seminars. Attend all mandatory CCHMC training sessions. Implement obtained knowledge/skills into one's own work, the department, and/or the organization. Assume responsibility for one's own professional growth and development. May participate in internal/external professional committees, agencies, councils, and/or activities.
  • Compliance - Understand and comply with applicable policies, guidelines, regulations, and/or accreditation standards. Document compliance as necessary. Maintain compliance with CCHMC Core Standards and code of ethics. May be responsible for ensuring that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and/or efficient environment for employees, patients, and/or families.

To primarily provide phlebotomy and other lab sample collection in addition to other laboratory support functions in the Clinical Laboratory department of a Medical Center dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of Phlebotomy or other relevant Clinical Lab specimen collection experience OR completion of a Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program
  • Preferred: Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification
