Job summary

McLaren Greater Lansing is seeking a detail-oriented Patient Registrar to ensure accurate entry of patient registration data and on-line insurance verification in compliance with HIPAA and hospital policies.

You will interact with physicians, offices, and departments to obtain orders, verify coverage, and collect necessary information prior to service. The role requires strong data entry, medical terminology knowledge, and proficient MS Office use.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum six months patient registration or billing experience in acute care or two years clerical experience with data entry, customer service, and recordkeeping; or AssociateDegree in Medical Insurance Billing and Coding.
• Experience or coursework in medical terminology.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and Windows applications.

Responsibilities

• Enter patient registration data accurately and complete online insurance verification.
• Coordinate admissions and transfers by communicating with nursing supervisor and physicians as required.
• Collect and verify patient demographic and insurance information; obtain signatures on forms.
• Prepare and audit patient records for completeness; distribute records as needed.
• Direct self-pay patients to Pre-Admission Review or Financial Counseling as appropriate.
