Job summary

HNL Lab Medicine in Hawaii seeks a Pathology Gross Room Assistant to support gross preparation, tissue prep for microscopic examination, and accurate accessioning using the pathology information system. The role emphasizes independent work and contribution to special projects led by the Pathology leadership.

Ideal candidates will hold an associate degree in laboratory science or MLT and have training in medical laboratory technology, chemistry, or biology as required.

Qualifications

• Education/Experience: An earned associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution OR equivalent including 60 semester hours with 24 hours of MLT or science courses with chemistry/biology requirements.
• Language Ability: Read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial and legal documents; respond to inquiries.
• Math Ability: Work with fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions.
• Reasoning Ability: Define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions; interpret technical instructions.
• Computer Skills: Word processing, Spreadsheets, E-mail, Laboratory Information Systems.

Responsibilities

• Assists in gross preparation of non-complex surgical examinations.
• Selects and prepares tissue for microscopic examination for permanent sections.
• Performs gross description of non-complex surgical specimens.
• Ensures correct accessioning and numbering using pathology information system.
• Assists and completes special projects as designated by Lead PA or Pathology Manager/Pathologist.
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
