Job summary

UPMC East is seeking a fulltime Security Officer for evening/overnight hours (6:30 pm–6:30 am, 2 days on, 2 days off) with weekend and holiday duties. The role focuses on maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff through patrols, incident documentation, and coordinating with police when needed.

Applicants should have a High School diploma (or equivalent) and strong interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact, communicate, and diffuse potential combative situations.
• Psychological fitness to handle stress and dangerous conflicts.
• Physical fitness to meet typical demands and respond to emergencies.
• Background and criminal record check required.
• Availability for all shifts.
• Bulletproof vest worn by officers.

Responsibilities

• Staff posts to monitor ingress and egress of secured areas.
• Provide customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff.
• Inspect parcels to prevent theft.
• Respond to problems, disputes and unusual circumstances.
• Maintain certifications and licensing as required.
• Assist with traffic control and vehicle assistance.
• Transport deceased to morgue as needed.
• Monitor alarms and respond accordingly.
• Patrol hospitals, buildings and grounds to deter crime and document activities.
• Complete mandatory training per guidelines.
• Document incidents and hazards.
