Job summary

The Town of Chapel Hill is seeking a Health Assessment Specialist to join the CARE Team. This mobile crisis unit delivers non-clinical medical assessments, stabilization support, health education, and care coordination in homes, schools, shelters, and community settings.

The role supports Crisis Counselors and Peer Support Specialists, responding to behavioral health calls without police involvement and following up after stabilization. A valid NC driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's preferred.
• Experience in mobile crisis response or related fields preferred.
• Training in harm reduction or trauma-informed care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Respond with a team to behavioral health calls not requiring law enforcement.
• Provide follow-up contact after stabilization.
• Perform non-invasive assessments of physical condition, hydration, injuries, and overall wellness.
• Identify red-flag symptoms and escalate to EMS or clinical providers.
• Deliver basic first aid within non-licensed scope.
• Assist with environmental and safety assessments and referrals to services.
• Document findings clearly and accurately per program protocols.
