Job summary

UPMC Washington is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join our Microbiology Lab. The role offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative team of laboratory professionals dedicated to accurate testing and patient care, with a focus on quality and safety.

Evening shifts from 2:30 PM to 10:30 PM or 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM are required, with weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• MLS or MLT certification required.
• Will consider MLS/MLT career ladder levels.
• Candidates who meet Lab Support Technician requirements may also be considered if they possess a bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities

• Interact courteously and professionally with laboratory customers; respond to inquiries promptly.
• Adhere to laboratory procedures for specimen collection and processing, including phlebotomy when required.
• Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses according to established protocols with accuracy and timeliness.
• Recognize critical, abnormal, and unacceptable test results and follow approved corrective actions.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment; perform quality control checks and calibration.
• Maintain knowledge of techniques and instruments; assist with test development and evaluations.
• Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as assigned.
