Job summary

UnitedHealth Group’s OptumCare unit is hiring for a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (MLS/MT) to perform full-spectrum lab testing from pre-analytic to post-analytic stages. The role emphasizes accuracy, instrumentation knowledge, and adherence to HIPAA-compliant practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by a nationally recognized agency (e.g., ASCP, AMT, AAB).
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests and procedures in a timely and accurate manner.
• Evaluate laboratory results meticulously, promptly addressing discrepancies.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and maintenance.
• Communicate with medical staff regarding procedures and results.
• Monitor laboratory supplies and report low inventory levels to management.
• Participate in quality assurance and quality control activities, including proficiency testing.
• Provide training to new staff and students on techniques and equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of procedures and results with meticulous documentation.
• Uphold specimen integrity throughout testing to ensure accurate results.
• Utilize Laboratory Information System and related communication tools to support workflow.

Education
