Job summary

Advocate Health in Wisconsin seeks a part-time Medical Technologist (20 hours/week) to work 1:00 PM–9:30 PM, every other weekend and rotating holidays. You will perform, evaluate and monitor laboratory tests within approved protocols to deliver timely results.

Duties include instrument calibration and maintenance, quality control, specimen handling, training staff, and supporting CAP regulations and safety standards in a high-acuity setting.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include alternate site assignment.

Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols.
• Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity and appropriateness and reports as required.
• Performs calibration, maintenance and repair of instruments and equipment.
• Documents quality control and quality assurance activities and takes corrective action when indicated.
• Ensures specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing.
• Provides direction, training and technical assistance to staff and students as assigned.
• Supports quality and efficiency improvements and compliance with accreditation standards.
• Performs proficiency testing and supports specialty testing across departments.
• Provides timely, accurate results for critical care departments during high acuity events.
• Must be able to assess patient age-specific needs and adapt care accordingly.
