Job summary

Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars, IA has a full-time position in our Laboratory Department for a Medical Lab Scientist or Medical Technician. Evening shift (3 pm–11 pm) with every 5th weekend (6 pm–6 am) and rotating holidays. The role emphasizes patient testing and teamwork.

Responsibilities include phlebotomy, routine and special laboratory testing, instrument maintenance, quality control, and staff training. A supportive culture promotes work‑life balance and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or an Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
• 2 years of Microbiology experience required.
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist from the ASCP or AMT within 12 months of hire.
• BLS certification is a plus and required as an employee.

Responsibilities

• Maintains inventory for the chemistry and microbiology departments and trains new staff.
• Performs routine and special laboratory testing and reports results within established turnaround times.
• Performs phlebotomy on adults, children, and infants by venipuncture or capillary methods and direct arterial punctures.
• Maintains instrument calibrations, function checks, and quality control procedures.
• Assists in evaluating new tests and procedures; conducts proficiency testing and remedial action as needed.
