Job summary

Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars, IA has a full-time position in our Laboratory Department for a Medical Lab Scientist or Medical Technician. Evening shift (3 pm–11 pm) with every 5th weekend (6 pm–6 am) and rotating holidays. The role emphasizes patient testing and teamwork.

Responsibilities include phlebotomy, routine and special laboratory testing, instrument maintenance, quality control, and staff training. A supportive culture promotes work‑life balance and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or an Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
• 2 years of Microbiology experience required.
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist from the ASCP or AMT within 12 months of hire.
• BLS certification is a plus and required as an employee.

• Maintains inventory for the chemistry and microbiology departments and trains new staff.
• Performs routine and special laboratory testing and reports results within established turnaround times.
• Performs phlebotomy on adults, children, and infants by venipuncture or capillary methods and direct arterial punctures.
• Maintains instrument calibrations, function checks, and quality control procedures.
• Assists in evaluating new tests and procedures; conducts proficiency testing and remedial action as needed.

Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars, IA has a full-time position (40 hours per week) in our Laboratory Department for a Medical Lab Scientist or Medical Technician. Evening position Monday-Friday (3 pm-11 pm) and every 5th weekend (6 pm-6 am) Floyd Valley offers a positive culture that supports a healthy work-life balance. Responsibilities

Serves as a resource to lab staff, maintains inventory for the chemistry and microbiology departments, trains new staff, and conducts competencies for staff. Updates policies and procedures and activates troubleshooting procedures when necessary. Provides phlebotomy on adults, children, and infants by venipuncture or capillary methods and direct arterial punctures. Performs routine and special laboratory testing, recording, and test results reporting within established turnaround time. Interpret analytical findings/results to assess compliance with hospital and industry standards. Performs specimen collection, handling, processing, and testing following established procedures. Performs instrument maintenance, calibrations, and function checks. Assists in evaluating new tests and/or new procedures; perform quality control, proficiency testing and remedial action for unacceptable results.

Every fifth weekend; rotating holidays.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or an Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. 2 years of Microbiology experience required. Previous experience in a hospital laboratory setting is required. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist from the ASCP or AMT required within 12 months of hire. BLS a plus; certification is required as an employee. Mandatory Reporter training certificate a plus; certification is required as an employee.
