Job summary

Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars, IA, has a full-time position in our Laboratory Department for a Medical Lab Scientist or Medical Technician. Evening position Monday-Friday (3 pm-11 pm) and every 5th weekend (6 pm-6 am).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
• 2 years of Microbiology experience required.
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist from the ASCP or AMT required within 12 months of hire.
• BLS certification is a plus; certification is required as an employee.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a resource to lab staff, maintains inventory for chemistry and microbiology departments, trains new staff, and conducts competencies for staff.
• Updates policies and procedures and activates troubleshooting procedures when necessary.
• Provides phlebotomy on adults, children, and infants by venipuncture or capillary methods and direct arterial punctures.
• Performs routine and special laboratory testing, recording, and test results reporting within established turnaround time.
• Interprets analytical findings/results to assess compliance with hospital and industry standards.
• Performs specimen collection, handling, processing, and testing following established procedures.
• Performs instrument maintenance, calibrations, and function checks.
• Assists in evaluating new tests and/or procedures; performs quality control, proficiency testing and remedial action for unacceptable results.
• Every fifth weekend; rotating holidays.
