Job summary

Recology is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic in San Francisco to service and repair heavy landfill equipment and processing systems. You will diagnose and fix diesel or CNG engines, electrical, hydraulic, and body systems to ensure safety and reliability.

Responsibilities include leading small teams, maintaining parts inventories, and documenting work. Preference for waste/recycling experience; Class A CDL preferred within 6 months of hire. Great benefits and a team‑oriented culture.

Qualifications

• Four years of progressively responsible mechanical experience as a journeyman mechanic.
• Waste and recycling industry experience preferred.
• Knowledge of DOT Out-of-Service Criteria and CHP inspections.
• Experience with vehicles, processing equipment like balers, conveyors, hoppers and motors.
• Knowledge of diesel and/or CNG engines and fabrication tools.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses, tests and repairs vehicles and heavy landfill equipment including powertrains, drivetrains, electrical and suspension systems.
• Diagnoses, tests and repairs refuse vehicle and transfer trailer body systems (hydraulic, electrical, body mechanics).
• Diagnoses, tests and maintains processing equipment such as balers, conveyors, hoppers and motors.
• Performs basic fabrication work using welding equipment and torches.
• Orders and maintains shop parts, tools, equipment and supplies.
• Completes paperwork or database entries related to work performed.
• Acts as a lead worker by directing others and reviewing work.
