Job summary

Carleton College Library in Northfield, Minnesota seeks an Evening Supervisor & Student Experience Specialist to oversee evening and weekend operations, mentor student staff, and coordinate reserves and events. The role supports access services and Bridge Consortium activities with St. Olaf Libraries.

The position is 1.0 FTE with rotating schedules, an hourly rate of $26.50, and comprehensive benefits, requiring a four-year degree, strong communication, and supervisory experience.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree or equivalent experience in a library setting.
• Excellent communication and public relations skills with a service orientation.
• Flexible, enthusiastic, and able to work with faculty, students, staff and the public.
• Technological proficiency and ability to learn new software quickly.
• Supervisory experience.
• Ability to lift 20+ pounds frequently.
• Discretion and sound judgment in varied situations.
• Ability to work under stress and handle emergencies.
• Attention to detail and reliability.
• Willingness to adapt and learn in a changing environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide circulation services and manage borrowing, renewals, and returns.
• Serve as sole evening/weekend staff, triaging issues that arise.
• Supervise building closure to ensure safety and security.
• Guide users in space and technology use (printers, scanners, etc.).
• Mentor student employees and contribute to training.
• Enforce library policies to ensure fair use of resources and spaces.
• Assist with evening/weekend course reserves requests.
• Set up and support evening/weekend library events.
• Design and conduct user research to improve student experience.
