Job summary

The University of Iowa invites applications for a Kitchen Helper I at Burge Marketplace. Under direct supervision, you will perform routine cleaning and basic food service area tasks to keep facilities sanitary and efficient.

Shift is primarily 12:30pm–9:00pm with occasional earlier hours, weekends included. The role emphasizes teamwork, reliability, and a willingness to learn basic computer tasks for timekeeping and communications.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Customer service experience.
• Six months’ experience working as a laborer.
• Interest in learning basic computer and keyboarding; ability to access email and manage time accruals and absence requests.

Responsibilities

• Scraping, sorting, stacking and scrubbing pots, pans, dishes, utensils, etc.
• Performing cleaning duties including mopping, sweeping, vacuuming and general cleaning.
• Operating and maintaining pot & pan/dishwashing machines and areas in an efficient, effective and sanitary manner.
• Supplying necessary areas with clean dishes and utensils.
