Job summary

University Housing & Dining at the University of Iowa seeks a Kitchen Helper I to join the Burge Marketplace team on campus in Iowa City. The role involves routine cleaning in food service areas under direct supervision and ensuring clean dishes and utensils are available.

Responsibilities include scrubbing pots and pans, general cleaning, operating dishwashing areas, and supporting a sanitary kitchen environment.

Qualifications

• Six months’ experience working as a laborer.
• Ability to foster a welcoming and respectful workplace environment while recognizing personal differences.
• Interest in and the ability to learn basic computer and keyboarding skills; including the ability to access and draft email correspondence and the ability to manage electronic time accruals and personal absence requests.

Responsibilities

• Scrape, sort, stack and scrub pots, pans, dishes, utensils, etc. for dishwashing preparation.
• Perform cleaning duties including mopping, sweeping, vacuuming and general cleaning.
• Operate and maintain pot & pan/dishwashing machines and areas in an efficient, effective and sanitary manner.
• Supply necessary areas with clean dishes and utensils.
• Shift is predominantly 12:30pm - 9:00pm; may include other 8-hour shifts and weekend hours.
