Job summary

The City of New York Department of Homeless Services (DHS) seeks a Community Associate to function as an Intake Worker. You will interact with communities, interview families for referrals, and coordinate shelter placement information while maintaining confidentiality throughout the application process.

Hours: Sun–Thu, 3pm–11pm. Residency in New York City is generally required within 90 days of appointment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with relevant community work experience.
• Ability to interview families and refer social services.

Responsibilities

• Interact with communities to inform residents about DHS programs and shelters.
• Interview families and issue social service referrals.
• Maintain liaison with shelters to convey placement information and coordinate transportation.
• Assist with handling confidential client inquiries during the application process.
• Prepare administrative reports on shelter placements (monthly, quarterly, annual).
• Collect and analyze on-site and statistical data and communicate results to supervisors.
• Coordinate case files and related documents with various units.
