Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a dock/freight handler to move freight across the dock area, load into trailers, and ensure accurate paperwork. You will operate forklifts and pallet jacks, secure loads, and assist customers as needed.

The role requires basic math, safety awareness, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced dock environment. Evening shifts are typical, with variable hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Prior warehousing/freight handling and/or forklift experience preferred.
• If hostler/yard mule duties required, experience preferred.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times a week and to open trailer doors requiring notable lift.
• Ability to bend, twist, squat, pushing/pulling freight throughout shift.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
• Prior dock/warehouse experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Transport freight across dock area to/from trailers for loading to trailers.
• Operate appropriate equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck) for freight handling.
• Verify documentation matches freight description (type, weight, hazardous materials).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Complete required documentation and reports.
• Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed.
• Perform hostling duties if required.
• Comply with laws, regulations and company policies.
