Job summary

Temple Shalom of Newton is seeking a part-time Building Representative to support evening programs and rentals in Newton, MA. The role focuses on maintaining a welcoming, safe, and well-kept building, while managing visitor access and coordinating with event staff.

You will monitor the space during events, handle routine issues, and perform end-of-night closing. The position offers a $25/hr rate with a minimum shift length and usually 15–20 hours per week, including some weekend shifts as needed.

Qualifications

• Reliable, organized, and comfortable working independently during evening programs and rentals.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills; attention to detail; ability to follow building security and closing procedures; able to respond calmly to routine issues.
• Availability to work weekday evenings, with flexibility for varying program schedules and occasional weekend shifts.
• Reliable transportation in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Program and Rental Support: Welcome groups and coordinate with staff lead, accommodator, security personnel, caterers, and vendors.
• Building Access: Manage entry using the building’s security system, in coordination with the security guard.
• Room Readiness: Ensure rooms are set up correctly, lights on, temperatures comfortable; adjust as needed.
• Building Monitoring: Conduct building walkthroughs roughly every 30 minutes during events to identify issues.
• Closing Procedures: Close and secure the building at night, turn off lights/heating, and ensure doors are locked.
• Minor Issue Resolution: Address minor maintenance issues and contact staff for further help.
• Additional Tasks: Complete small operational tasks as needed.
