Job summary

New York Public Library is seeking an ESOL Instructor for the Washington Heights Library to teach adult learners in ESOL and digital literacy. The role supports the fall cycle with in-person classes and online options.

Classes run Tue and Thu 6:00pm–8:00pm for 5 hours weekly, plus 1 hour of paid prep. A Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 year of adult teaching experience are required, with both in-person and online delivery preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• At least 1 year of experience teaching adults in both in-person and online settings.
• Experience creating lesson plans using a backward design approach.
• Experience administering standardized assessments.

Responsibilities

• Teach ESOL classes that promote English language proficiency and digital literacy for students assessed at NRS levels 1-6.
• Follow the prescribed curriculum in a communicative language teaching environment during class-time.
• Submit lesson plans that demonstrate communicative language teaching in alignment with the prescribed curriculum.
• Instruct adult ESOL students in classes and learning experiences to achieve educational and personal goals.
• Assist in the enrollment process to recruit students and maintain student records.
• Participate in prescribed professional development pertaining to adult basic education and Library priorities.
