Job summary

The New York Public Library is seeking an ESOL Instructor (Part Time) for the Bronx Library Center to teach adult literacy and ESOL classes on Saturdays and Sundays. The role requires delivering instruction aligned with a formal curriculum and supporting students’ educational goals.

Position is seasonal and part-time, with in-person weekend classes at Bronx Library Center, plus prep time. A Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of experience are required, with strong communication and tech

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.
At least 1 year of experience teaching adults in both in-person and online settings.
Experience creating lesson plans using a backward design approach.
Experience administering standardized assessments.

Responsibilities

Teach ESOL classes that promote English language proficiency and digital literacy for students assessed at NRS levels 1-6.
Follow the prescribed curriculum in a communicative language teaching environment during class-time.
Submit lesson plans that demonstrate communicative language teaching in alignment with the prescribed curriculum.
Instruct adult ESOL students in classes and learning experiences, which will lead to the achievement of their educational and personal goals.
Assist in the managed enrollment process to recruit students and maintain student records.
Participate in prescribed professional development pertaining to adult basic education and Library strategic priorities.
