Job summary

Kona Community Hospital on the Big Island is seeking a Patient Access Rep IV for the Admitting role in the Emergency Room evenings. You will act as the lead in Patient Access, verifying insurance, obtaining preauthorizations, and guiding patient data accuracy for admissions.

The position requires strong clerical skills, healthcare knowledge, and the ability to coordinate with patients and insurers while ensuring compliant, timely admissions.

Qualifications

• Education: high school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years typing, clerical work, cashiering, data input or customer service experience.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree may substitute for general experience.
• Three years hospital admission experience; interviewing patients; securing insurance signatures; arranging payment.
• Knowledge of admissions policies, HIPAA, COBRA, Medicare/Medicaid, ICD-10, CPT and third-party billing.

Responsibilities

• Lead Patient Access Representative; ensure outpatient admissions are completed and pre-authorizations obtained.
• Verify insurance, obtain preauthorizations, and ensure signed consents.
• Communicate with patients and insurers to verify demographics, insurance, and financial data.
• Pre-register next-day appointments and ensure preauthorization is acquired.
