Job summary

Pierce County is seeking an experienced Equipment Technician to support infrastructure by maintaining and repairing diesel, gas, and EV powered vehicles, trailers, and equipment. You will diagnose using software and tools, perform preventative maintenance, and fabricate as needed to ensure reliable performance for the county fleet.

The role requires the ability to estimate repairs, lift and maneuver heavy equipment, and work across multiple shops, with a shift differential of $1.20 per hour on

Qualifications

  • Experience with diagnostic software and hardware used in vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to inspect, diagnose, and repair gas/diesel/EV powered equipment.
  • Able to operate common hand and power tools and welding equipment used in automotive repair.

Responsibilities

  • Perform progressive preventative maintenance on gas and diesel powered vehicles, trailers, and equipment.
  • Perform full range of maintenance and repair on vehicles and related equipment.
  • Inspect and determine repairs, plan procedures using manuals and experience.
  • Repair various road construction equipment and discuss damage with operators.
  • Operate a mechanic’s truck and perform field repairs including welding as needed.
  • Perform welding and fabrication to maintain equipment.
