Job summary

Lowell General Hospital is seeking an Environmental Services Aide I for the Evening shift. The 32-hour position supports patient areas, offices, clinics with routine cleaning, sanitation, waste removal, and restocking supplies to maintain a clean, safe environment.

Under supervision, you will perform repetitive housekeeping tasks, follow infection control practices, and ensure readiness for patient care and hospital operations. High school diploma and ability to read/write English are required.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read simple instructions, write, and speak basic English.
• Ability to operate simple mechanical devices such as floor rotos, vacuums, compactors, etc.
• Familiarity with operation of heavy duty, electrical cleaning equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a cleaning cart in an orderly condition, keeping cart stocked with supplies.
• Removes waste including rubbish, recycle paper, and hazardous material.
• Uses chemicals to clean and disinfect floors, posts Wet Floor signs when mopping.
• Empties waste baskets, replaces liners, and disposes of trash at designated areas.
• Cleans and disinfects bathrooms and replenishes supplies as needed.
• Replenishes all supplies: soap, toilet paper, paper towels.
• Disinfects patient rooms and makes beds with fresh linen after discharge.
• Transports linen hampers and replaces full bags.
• Cleans furniture, telephones, and surfaces; vacuums carpets and upholstery.
• Operates heavy cleaning equipment as needed (vacuum, scrubber, buffers).
• Follows infection control procedures and reports equipment problems.
• May perform cleaning in operating rooms and hazardous waste handling when required.
