Job summary

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist for the Core Lab on the evening shift (weekend). The schedule is Saturday, Sunday and Monday 2:30 p.m. – 11 p.m., with holiday rotation.

Minimum education includes a bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related fields and completion of a medical laboratory training program. Certification within six months of hire is required if not licensed in Tennessee.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology/medical laboratory science or in one of the biological, chemical or physical sciences and completion of a medical laboratory training program is required.
• Medical Laboratory skills obtained through clinical rotations or training are required.
• Certification/licensure within six months of hire if not already licensed in Tennessee as MLS/MT.

Responsibilities

• Execute prompt, efficient, and accurate performance, validation, and reporting of laboratory test results for prognosis, diagnosis, treatment and research.
• Maintain documentation of QC, compliance, and appropriate usage of material/equipment/PPE.
• Perform quality control activities and document results and issues.
• Assist in setup, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of lab equipment.
• Participate in inventory planning and management for the lab.
• Update procedures and manuals to reflect current practices.
• Collect quality data and contribute to Quality Program initiatives.
• Comply with hospital standards and licensing requirements; inform supervisor of unusual observations.
