Job summary

Meritus Health Inc. in Hagerstown, MD is seeking a part-time Clinical Lab Assistant for the Stat Lab, evening shift (2:30pm-11:00pm). Responsibilities include specimen processing, clerical tasks, inventory management, and adherence to quality and safety standards.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, data entry and medical terminology assessment experience, and strong attention to detail. Preferred are an associate degree and 2+ years in a laboratory or healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Ability to understand and follow clinical protocols, specifications, and procedures.
• Successful completion of data entry and medical terminology assessments.
• Associate degree in a health-related field is preferred.
• Minimum of two years of previous laboratory or related healthcare experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform specimen preparation, including centrifugation, aliquoting, volume measurement, labeling, storage, and packaging for in-house and reference laboratory testing.
• Assist laboratory technical staff with loading and unloading specimens from analyzers.
• Ensure accuracy and quality throughout specimen processing and testing workflows.
• Conduct complex clerical and processing functions while maintaining accurate laboratory records and reports.
• Manage department inventory, including monitoring stock levels, receiving supplies, and organizing storage.
• Collect, handle, and prepare biohazardous waste for proper disposal.
• Follow all laboratory safety protocols and quality assurance standards.
• Communicate effectively with laboratory staff and other healthcare team members.
• Demonstrate independent decision-making, sound judgment, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
