Job summary

Friends University seeks a Library Assistant - ILL and Circulation Manager in Wichita, KS. This role serves library patrons, circulates materials, processes interlibrary loan, and helps maintain the library’s collections and spaces. Evening and Sunday shifts are required (1:00 pm–10:00 pm during fall/spring).

Supervises student workers and coordinates scheduling and tasks. The position requires at least a Bachelor’s degree; MLS is preferred.

Qualifications

• Two years’ experience in a library setting preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree required; MLS preferred.
• Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential; strong interpersonal communication is required.
• Computer proficiency with library office equipment and software (databases, internet applications, library management systems, interlibrary loan systems) is required.

Responsibilities

• Staff and manage Circulation desk activities in evenings and Sundays; assist patrons with resources, internet access, copiers and printers; collect fines and reconcile cash receipts; place and remove holds on records.
• Schedule Library rooms using the Astra system.
• Coordinate opening procedures on Sundays and closing procedures in evenings to secure the Library.
• Hire, supervise, train, and schedule student workers; train them in Circulation duties and patron communication.
• Develop and implement circulation policies; serve as building captain for security and emergencies during evening/Sunday shifts.
• Process interlibrary loan and document delivery requests; maintain records, statistics, reports, and relationships with lenders and couriers.
